Dear friends of The Tower Theatre,

Following the announcement by the Prime Minister on Monday, that people should avoid social venues including theatres, we have had no choice but to make the sad decision to close The Tower Theatre temporarily, and postpone all shows and events.

This was particularly disappointing for the cast and crew of Vicar of Dibley, who were just 48 hours from opening night, and have worked so hard.

As you may be aware, we are a registered charity and do not get Arts Council funding. We rely solely on the income from ticket sales, donations and membership subscriptions.  It is a tough time in Theatreland, as it is for the leisure industry as a whole. These announcements will have a critical impact, not only on the performers, but on the workforce &  wider team.

We are determined to survive this, retain our loyal team and to be back up and running as soon as possible.  To make this happen we really need your help. We have started a Crowdfunding campaign to help the theatre through these difficult times and are asking for donations; any amount large or small, will make a difference to our beloved community theatre.

Lastly, to all of you who have purchased tickets to forthcoming shows that have been postponed; we will be scheduling new dates for as many of the performances as we can, and any tickets already sold will be transferable to the new dates.  We will be following legal guidelines for refunds, however, please remember those ticket sales are our main source of income so if you can attend the rescheduled dates, please retain your tickets or consider donating the fee to help support us. We will keep in touch with you on a regular basis, as well as posting updates across our social media channels and website.

The onsite box office is now closed to the public, however, for the time being, you can still call us on 01303 223925 between 10am-2pm or please email us at

We kindly ask for your patience whilst we manage the administration of the closure, and we really can’t thank you all enough for your support and kind words.

Alternatively, donations can also be made by post to the theatre. We are extremely grateful for all we receive.

Take care and we hope to see you all again very soon.
